Not necessarily for the simple jobs of a houshold but I am an engineer and use it at work. Mostly for wiring labeling in machines and component identification.I work in IT and electronics. I have a lot of wires, setup, components and a lot more that needs labeling. For 2 decades my trusted "Brother" label maker did an OK job, but there were lots of issues. Fonts for one thing - cannot write ohms, superscript or a lot more outside the traditional A-Z - and even if the symbol existed, it's way hard to find unless you use it often. I also had to look very careful to ensure the settings were set right.I looked for a better solution and came across the DYMO - on the pricy side but it sold me on the ability to print on shrink wrap - something I still have to test. Because when it arrived, I was BLOWN AWAY with how easy it was to create cable labels, patch panel labels, control fonts, sizing and dimensions. Heck, I can tell it how wide I want my label and it automatically adjusts the size of the print to fit! It saves so much time. It's rugged, rechargable, extremly easy to change labels with (The Brother model often ate labels requiring clearing and "fixes"). I can have very wide labels in this, very narrow and just be productive. It's got extensive fonts for all kinds of jobs, including electronics and cable labels. You can even print out bar-codes!The only thing it may need is the ability for me to upload a file with a ton of data I need printed on labels, but I'm sure it's there - I just haven't found it yet. Another thing I love is when you print copies, it stops between each copy so you can cut the label. No more scissors!Well worth the price!Edit: I still like the model - after 6 months it's made creating labels for electronical stuff much easier. That said, a few draw-backs that I've come to learn. You cannot modify the space between label prints. While I appreciate the space between the label content and the cut makes it a very nice centered label, I end up with a lot of wasted label - for a lot of my labels more than half of the label roll is wasted this way. And you cannot reduce it. In particular when I need to print a series of values, I cannot use the "insert" because I get a huge space between each label. I want to simply print a long list a cut them myself. However, as I need to print two numbers on each print separated by new-line (a wonderful feature) there's really no option with this label maker. I will have to use my old Brother label maker to do this without a huge label waste.Another feature that I have found missing is the lack of sub/super script. You cannot write exponents which is really helpful in some use-cases but there's no options with the 5200 to do this. You have symbols with 2 and 3 in superscript but that's it.All in all, I'm still very happy with this but I had to adjust my rating down one star to clarify a few "glaring" missing features. As part of my company’s initiative for LEAN, this was purchased to further the need for refinement and continuous improvement. We have used this to barcode label mission critical applications in the warehouse and anywhere else in need of clarification. The non-qwerty keyboard is a bit frustrating to use at first but over time it becomes less cumbersome. The interface for finding symbols is not intuitive. There is a learning curve and a bit of experimentation is needed to understand the nuances of the device. The package came with label stock and some additional non-oem label stock was purchased. The OEM label stock worked perfectly in the device. There were no traceable skips in printing. 3/4” label stock is the perfect size for what we’re doing and is visible with very little effort. The package came with 1/2” stock as well and proved to be useful but not to the degree of the 3/4”. The non-oem label stock did encounter intermittent label printing skips and streaks. Although a bit disappointing the quality was satisfactory to a degree.Adhesion of both label stocks has been well received and to date, no labels have been reported to fall, shear off, or get destroyed. Our IT department has been using the printer to record IP addresses on each workstation for their purposes and with the dirt and grime the labels encounter every day, they have held up remarkably well. I’m sure we will have to relabel on occasion but from what I have seen, it will be on a case by case basis and not a carte blanche relabeling effort. With the unit being built for the “warehouse life” I can say the unit has still functioned after being dropped numerous times. Although the plastic feels rigid to the touch, it has proven itself to be strong enough to withstand the daily use by our LEAN warehouse staff. Scuffs, scrapes, drops, and breaks are rarely avoidable but I believe this unit is up to the challenge based on what I’ve seen.Overall a good product even though it is one of DYMO’s lower cost alternatives. Still believe the frustration of the UI being implemented and the keyboard design was an interesting decision made by their developer team, issues aside, the device functions and performs as desired and advertised.I'll start out by saying that I really like the labels that this creates. I've purchased a few different tapes, including 2 different heat shrink cartridges, and they all work really well. This has the ability to do patch panels and punchdowns and it manages all the real estate on the label. It also has symbols and is overall pretty versatile. I like the device a lot.I would have probably given this 5 stars except for the battery. I saw another commenter say that the rechargeable battery doesn't fit. It does fit but it's weird in that it goes in at the opposite direction of the AA batteries, if you use those. I understand how the confusion gets created as there are really no instructions. My complaint is that the battery doesn't charge. I'm guessing the battery is defective at some level. It seems to charge a tiny bit but never gets above one bar. Then, as I'm using it, it might go up to two bars for a few minutes and then back down.Update on March 15: As I've used this (and left it charging) over the past several days the battery indicator has eventually started to show higher charge. It's not that the battery ever died - it may have been fully charged - but the indicator showed no charge or maybe one bar. It's a little weird but the thing seems OK now and it works great on lots of label types. I've used labels and shrink tube, I've used wire, cable, general and patch panel settings. All work really nicely.I bought this for business use believing it to be a high-quality, professional labeller. I have had nothing but problems with mine! It initially printed very poorly and faintly, but tech support gave me some solutions that seemed to work. However the print resolution is worse than the $50 home labeller I bought years ago from Staples.Worse yet, the tapes it comes with barely adhere to anything but a perfectly smooth, "high energy" surface! If you want to label anything that remotely has a texture forget about it, the labels WILL peel off. For that apparently you have to buy their "high performance" tape for double to triple the cost for a THIRD of the length!!Very disappointed in this unit. The only positive thing I can say is their technical support is excellent, but a good product shouldn't require that you have to contact them constantly!I have to admit the unit is quite difficult to get set up for size and how to print but when I finally find the correct buttons and do create the labels hey do turn out real good. Nice quality altogether. Just a bit difficult to get setup every time. But still a good product.I bought this to label all of my electrical cables at work, the only issue I currently have is the fact that when I plug the unit in to charge the battery, it makes a very high-pitched whine sound. It sounds like it may have a bad capacitor in it... hopefully it lasts.*update:Attached a photo of what the actual 3 line, 3/4 inch label looks like. Weird line across the middle with a slight misalignment on the 3rd line.FYI, this label maker just comes with 1x 3/4inch black on white vinyl cartridge and nothing else. No hard case, no rechargeable battery pack, no 3 piece cartridge variety pack. Works like it should, although the arrow buttons aren’t as responsive as the rest of the buttons. But that’s just me nitpicking. Great stuff.HONESTLY THE PRINTER IS VERY GOOD AND USEFULL FOR ELECTRICAL CABLES AND CONTROL PANEL , I USE IT FOR PLASTIC MACHINE CONTROL PANEL AND THE SHRINK COVER ALL CABLE AND WIRES SIZE, PRINTING IS VERY TIDY AND NICE.
